In its third year the Walled Garden event in Wallingford was another huge success. Attracting nearly 1,200 visitors and raising over £16,000 for local charities.
Fourteen walled gardens opened this year, three for the first time and two returning from 2023. The weather was perfect for walking round the gardens exploring and visiting the wide variety of stalls including those selling plants and cut flowers to refreshments including wine, Pimms and hot drinks and cakes. One of the gardens was also offering short boat trips on the Thames.
The money raised on the day all goes to local charities. The principal charity supported is Style Acre who supports over 270 adults with learning disabilities in Oxfordshire and are based at Howbery Park near Wallingford.
The other charities supported include Wallingford’s Corn Exchange who are at the heart of arts and culture in the town, Wallingford Museum, the League of Friends of Wallingford Hospital and St Mary’s Church, where major repairs are needed.
Rowland Hogg, one of the organisers said “It was wonderful to see so many people out and about enjoying the gardens. A huge thank you to everyone who opened their gardens, to those that visited and to our sponsors Root One, Champions, Pure Boating, PC Technicians and Homebase Property for helping us to raise so much for our local charities.”
