Volunteer For Us

From volunteering within our social enterprises, or helping at our events, our volunteers are an essential part of the work we do across Style Acre. Every volunteer contributes to helping us create more opportunities for the people we support.

Volunteers play a big part in Style Acre. As a volunteer you can develop your skills, gain experience in the charity sector and/or social care sector, build contacts and friendships in your local area, do something good and make a difference to local people with learning disabilities and autism and, of course, have fun!

If you would like further information on our volunteering and our volunteer opportunities, please contact us.

Current Volunteer Roles

There are many ways you can volunteer with Style Acre, see our current volunteering opportunities below. If any are of interest please complete our expression of interest form at the bottom of the page and we will be in touch.

Volunteering FAQ

These are some of the most frequently asked questions about volunteering. If you want to know more or to discuss volunteering further, please get in touch, email community@styleacre.org.uk

Q. Who can volunteer?

A. Anyone, just as long as you follow our vision and values. If you’re under 18, you will need permission from a parent or guardian.

Q. How much time do I need to commit?

A. We don’t ask for a set amount of time or days. We work with you to find a role that works best whether it’s regular volunteering or a one-off event.

Q. Do I need specialist skills to volunteer?

A. No, you don’t need specialist skills, but if you do have skills in a particular area, we can defiantly use them! Just let us know what you can do, and we will work with you to see how best we can use your experience.

Q. What support and training would I get?

A. Our volunteers will meet with the team they will be volunteering with who will complete an induction and any training needed specific to the area they are helping in. Other learning disabilities and autism training may also be available.

Q. Do volunteers get paid?

A. Our volunteers don’t get a salary, but we do pay reasonable expenses. Style Acre will reimburse you in respect of any expenses wholly, necessarily and reasonably incurred during your volunteering.

What can be claimed?

  • travel expenses – these will be paid to you when you need to travel for your Style Acre volunteering as agreed with the Volunteer Coordinator prior to travel. The Company will normally reimburse  standard-class rail fares, business mileage, car-parking costs (but not parking fines or penalties)
  • items needed for volunteering role as agreed with Volunteer Coordinator

Q. Can you accommodate group volunteering?

A. Yes, we have many opportunities for larger groups or corporate groups to come and volunteer across Style Acre. Get in touch to find out more, email community@styleacre.org.uk

Q. I have a criminal record, can I volunteer?

A. You may still be able to volunteer, however it will depend on the volunteer position you want to do. As part of the volunteer induction, you will need to complete a DBS (Disclosure and Barring) check, and we would then decide on a case-by-case basis.

Q. What checks do you do?

A. We will ask for two-character references before you become a volunteer and then we will carry out a DBS (Disclosure and Barring) check as you will be around people we support with learning disabilities and autism.
