Round the World Bear returns home raising £40,000 for Style Acre
Style Acre a local charity supporting 275 adults with learning disabilities and autism in Oxfordshire is excited to welcome home Round the World Bear who has raised £40,000 whilst travelling 40,760 nautical miles on the 11-month Clipper Round the World Yacht Race raising money and awareness for Style Acre.
David Marsan, parent of Nicole, one of the people supported by Style Acre sailed 6,950 nautical miles across the Mighty Pacific from China to Seattle on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht on Leg 6 of this endurance race. To raise money for Style Acre, David created a mascot Round the World Bear who raced on one of the 11 boats around the world.
Facing 60ft waves and undertaking 6 ocean crossings, passing twice across the equator and for 40% of the route closer to the International Space Station than inhabited land this venture with merchandise and generous donations raised the amazing total of £40,000. David said” It truly was an incredible experience and I thoroughly enjoyed creating lifelong friends and challenging myself through exhaustion and exhilarating conditions”.
Chris Ingram, Chief Executive of Style Acre said “We are blown away by the amount raised by David and Round the World Bear. It was an adventure of a lifetime and we have loved seeing their updates as they circumnavigated the world. This donation will make a big difference to the people we support and will be used to fund adventures, trips and to make dreams come true for the people we support. We can’t thank David and Round the World Bear enough for their support.”
