The Springs Golf Club raises over £17,000 for local charity Style Acre
Every year money is raised by members of The Springs Golf Club for a charity chosen by the club captains.
Last year Penny Hawson and Gary Walker chose Style Acre Charity, who support adults with learning disabilities and autism in Oxfordshire and are based at Howbery Park, near Wallingford.
Over 275 adults are supported by Style Acre in the county through community supported living houses, community support, 3 community hubs and 4 social enterprises that provides employment for the people they support.
A team from Style Acre attended the presentation evening and were presented with a cheque for £17,237 by the outgoing captains. The money was raised through a number of events over the year including an auction, charity golf days, raffles, halfway house donations, a summer ball and much more and will be used to partially fund a minibus for one of the community hubs.
A minibus will help support a larger number of people to a wide range of activities including, work, shopping, swimming, arts, bowling, tennis and day trips. The minibus will be used throughout the week by adults with learning disabilities and autism for years to come, enabling people to achieve their goals and enjoy everyday activities, special events and day trips. With transport, people can live their lives and avoid social isolation.
The money will also be used to make improvements at Style Acre’s accessible caravan on Hayling Islands which enables people supported by Style Acre to go on affordable holidays.
Anne-Marie Hicks, fundraising Manager at Style Acre said “We are so grateful for the support and generosity from everyone at the Springs Golf Club. We loved being part of the club for the year and would like to thank Penny and Gary for being such amazing captains. We were amazed by how much had been raised and will make a big difference. Thank you.”
The outcomes will be difference for everyone, but people will benefit from improved health and wellbeing as a result of enjoying the outdoors and social opportunities. Improved knowledge and skills and greater confidence and independence.
