Michelle Staniforth

Head of Speech and Language Therapy

Hi. My name is Michelle. I have worked at Style Acre since 2008. I am Head of Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) and have been a qualified SLT for over 20 years, previously working as a specialist in learning disability within the NHS.  I am also a licensed Makaton Regional Tutor.

We offer Speech & Language Therapy across the whole of Style Acre to assess communication difficulties, provide appropriate intervention and make sure we are operating an Inclusive Communication environment. This means all staff are able to communicate in a way that is appropriate for everyone we support. We run an excellent training programme for all staff and volunteers, which includes Communication Induction, Makaton signing, Intensive Interaction, Autism and Active Support, plus other bespoke courses as required. Our team of Communication Champions are staff who are offered extra training and skills development in the area of Speech & Language Therapy.

I am also the ASDAN Coordinator for Style Acre. This allows us to access over 70 modules at varying levels for people we support to gain new skills, create a folder of work and get a certificate. Topics include meal preparation, using transport and horticulture.

I am passionate about developing people’s skills and confidence in communication, and developing new skills through both the SLT and ASDAN programmes that we offer. I am also proud that our Care Quality Commission inspection in 2018 referred to the outstanding skills of our staff across these areas.
