Patrick, Dan and James’s incredible Spartan fundraising!

We are so incredibly grateful and in awe of Patrick Birkholm and his friends Dan and James, who raised a whopping £1805 for Style Acre by taking part in the Spartan Race in Windsor.

Patrick’s sister Hope is supported by Style Acre, and the three friends wanted to take on a challenge, and fundraise to show their gratitude and support, as Patrick and his family and friends have seen Hope benefit enormously from our services.

They chose the Spartan Race as their challenge as it is a long distance run involving all areas of fitness, not just running – it apparently included running uphill, through mud, and carrying heavy weights. Perhaps not everyone’s idea of fun, but Patrick has assured us that they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves – although they were VERY tired afterwards and quite stiff for a few days after!

They nearly doubled their fundraising target, and Patrick puts this down to friends and family being really behind a cause that meant so much to Hope – she is known and loved by many! The boys are really grateful for the generosity of all of their sponsors, and we certainly are too!

The money raised will help us to continue providing outstanding support to people like Hope in Oxfordshire to enable full, meaningful, fun and happy lives.

Thank you so much Patrick, Dan and James! We look forward to hearing what your next challenge is 🙂

Style Acre Superheroes!

POW! Last Saturday, eighteen people we support took part in the Superhero Triathlon at Dorney Lake, joining hundreds of participants to swim, cycle and walk or run the special course in this iconic location. They each had a Style Acre ‘sidekick’ joining them along the way to support and provide help and encouragement if needed!

Our swimmers got their wetsuits on, whilst the cyclists prepared their bikes and the walkers and runners chatted to their sidekicks.

Then after a warm-up led by some brilliant Paralympians (including Johnny Peacock) we were off! The swimmers did amazingly well swimming in the murky, chilly and choppy waters of the lake – once they were back their teammates sped off on bikes and then the third teammate set off on foot. At the finish line the whole team got a big shiny medal.

There was a real sense of pride and achievement by all at the end, and the Superheroes have been buzzing about it all week!

They couldn’t have done it without all our amazing staff and volunteers who gave up their Saturday to get everybody there and help them unleash their Superhero Powers!

The Superheroes have been fundraising too, and you can show your admiration by donating online if you haven’t already popped your name on somebody’s sponsor form!

Clare Balding was there on the day with C4 filming for a documentary which will be aired in September. Watch this space…
