I joined Style Acre as Director of Operations in July 2024 after spending the past couple of years as a commissioner of services for people with learning disabilities and autism, and really missing the contact with people who have learning disabilities that I had enjoyed in previous roles.
I developed a passion for supporting people with learning disabilities as my mum was a teacher for children with special needs and disabilities, and I volunteered at her school’s youth club after leaving university. This led to a move to London in 1994, where I supported an adult with a physical disability as a personal care assistant, then joined Choice Support as a Support Worker. I have worked in a number of Registered Manager roles, initially for individual care homes and then for a large Supported Living service until 2015, then moved into NHS roles overseeing groups of services for people with learning disabilities.
I have witnessed and been part of people making exceptional progress over the years, gaining greater independence and achieving a range of goals and aspirations. However, I also know that things can be really challenging for people with learning disabilities without the right support, housing and access to a range of opportunities. I am very proud to be part of Style Acre, as I feel that the people we employ live by our values, and we are always looking for new ways to put the people we support at the centre of everything we do.
